Hello writer friends, I am officially inviting you to my new Discord server: The Retreat!

the retreat 👩‍💻🌱

I wanted to create a space where we can build community around writing, no matter what we are writing from fiction and nonfiction, poetry to academic prose, fanfiction and everything in between.

The Retreat should also serve as a place to focus on writing, track your progress, find support in other writers, and share tips and tricks of the trade as you find them.

We have a book club and monthly writing events!

I encourage you to join in and start writing! If you’re totally new to Discord, I have set up a lovely introductions page which has a link for beginners.

This is what I tried to explain to US platforms like Patreon when they suspended my account for having a nude statue as the background image: I live in Europe, I can go and see a nude statue within a 5 minutes walk. Children can see them, they're not in some 18+ container. I will never understand those policies.

As an American, the times I’ve gone abroad I’ve felt free and open in a way that made coming back to the US extremely jarring in a way I couldn’t fully describe. This is an aspect of it—a sanitized, dead culture entirely composed of constant advertisements and guns.

I'm confused how art with genitals in it can even get hand wringing? that's just in every gallery? How do you even sanitise that without carving out some really significant parts of art history?

correct. now you're catching on.

anyway this is really what America is like. the right wing is currently weaponizing this against gay and trans people by accusing them of "grooming". it's really interesting to me to watch Europeans discover the reasons WHY Americans are all insane. like we didn't get this way by accident there are extremely powerful stressors acting on us from before the moment of birth that causes epigenetic syndromes, chronic illness and derangement lol

America isn’t great and we see it falling apart all around us

do interact if: you have a hyphenated last name, you're an older sibling, you have a cat, art was your favorite subject, you have kissed your friends, you really like at least one field of science, watch nature documentaries, you drank from the hose, you've been involved with the production of a musical but you never listened to hamilton, have at least one stick-n-poke, drink coffee every day, you have a favorite houseplant, prefer little and big spoon equally, have a dietary restriction, have dyed your hair green, or have been somewhere that you don't speak the language

fun fact: the reason that the plural of goose is geese but the plural of moose is not meese is because goose derives from an ancient germanic word undergoing strong declension, in the pattern of foot/feet and tooth/teeth, wherein oo is mutated to ee. however ‘moose’ is a native american word added to the english lexicon only ~400 years ago, and lacks the etymological reason to be pluralized in that way.

I don't think employers should be legally allowed to ask anyone to dress up for interviews. I should be able to walk in off the street in jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt and interview for jobs because employers are supposed to be interviewing me and my skills, training, education, and experience, not the nicest clothes in my closet.

It's discriminatory towards poor people to ask otherwise.

It's also just fucking audacious to demand that the people you need to provide the labor to keep your workplace going put on a suit and dance around like a trained monkey before you've even hired them.

I also think starting work clothes need to be added to the list of necessary things that employers should be paying their employees for, along with their commutes.

If you need me to work your job and you need me to wear scrubs and nonslip shoes to work your job then you should be buying me scrubs and nonslip shoes so I have something to wear to work your job.

orchidvioletindigo

In summary clothing should not be a barrier to employment and jobs should not have the right to make demands of your wardrobe and wallet.
